Die Bevölkerungsdichte im Gazastreifen beträgt 4,118 Bewohner pro Quadratkilometer und ist somit die sechsthöchste der Welt. Insgesamt leben auf 360 km2 etwa 1,48 Millionen Menschen.

Bedankt voor deze update. Uit een Amerikaanse hoek, impliceert dit de Amerikanen zullen veranderen hun leider tijdens een oorlog die dreigt te escaleren? Of zal Bush aan de macht blijven? Het lijkt de kwestie van Israël is dat zal moeten worden opgelost voor eens en voor allen en een of andere manier. Hoe gaat het ermee?
I really don't know the American point of view, but the support of Israel is usually a bipartisan concensus: Neither Democracts nor Republicans really can deviate from this (I am very critical of any conspiracy theories about why this is the case: I believe it is explainable from Israel's history with the US etc.) Probably Barack Obama is going to be more successful than his successor in bringing Palestinians and the Israeli government together in Camp David or something (did you actually see "The West Wing"? The early Obama presidency really starts to look like Bartlet's first four years). But right now it looks like there is no peace in sight - probably after the elections in Israel?
There are two things that shock me about the attacks, and I do get the Israeli point of view in the conflict: one that Gaza is so densely populated, so a huge number of Civilian casualties is not avoidable in an airstrike. Two, that there seems to be no way out for refugees.

Roosevelt ran for more than two terms because in his time (and he had to go through the entire Democratic process for this, become the candidate for his party and win the election), there was nothing written down that Presidents could only serve two terms. Before Roosevelt, this was considered a kind of tradition because Washington had turned down to run for a third term. Later, there was an amendment limiting the terms (the 22nd Amendment which passed in 1947).
