Countdown bis 2008: Favourite Mountain Goat Songs, Part II

Mountain Goats - The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton

The Best Ever Death Metal Band out of Denton
Were a Couple of Guys
Who'd Been Friends Since Grade School
One Was Named Sirus
The Other Was Jeff
And They Practiced Twice a Week in Jeff's Bedroom
The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton
Never Settled On a Name
But the Top Three Contenders
After Weeks of Debate
Were Satan's Fingers And the Killers And the Hospital Bums
Jeff And Sirus Believed in Their Hearts
They Were Headed For Stage Lights And Lear Jets
And Fortune And Fame
So in Script That Made Prominent Use of a Pentagram
They Stenciled Their Drumheads And Guitars With Their Names
This Is How Sirus Got Sent To the School
Where They Told Him He'd Never Be Famous
And this Was Why Jeff
In the Letters He'd Write To His Friend
Helped Develop a Plan to Get Even
When You Punish a Person For Dreaming His Dream
Don't Expect Him to Thank or Forgive You
The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton
Will in Time Both Outpace And Outlive You
Hail Satan
Hail Satan
Tonight
Hail Satan
All Hail West Texas (2002)
Yesterday I bought the fifth season box set of Six Feet Under. It seems like an eternity since I saw the fourth season, obviously not only because so much time has passed, but because so many things have changed, especially in regard to my family, since then. I had some difficulties getting used to what always was so important for me in the show: the fact that despite the fact that all families seem dysfunctional in the core, that "Terror starts at home", there is always something that draws you back, that connects you, no matter how far you run or how badly you try to be different. In the last season, Claire, who has been living off the money she inherited from her father, has to get a lame "The Office" inspired job in order to support herself since she dropped out of college. And in one of the best early episodes, her mother's sister, played by Patricia Clarkson, who's an artist, tells her that maybe she isn't an artist after all. If you're in artist, it's supposed to be like being "not purple". Not something you have to explain, but something you just feel you essentially are. If its possible for you to imagine any kind of different life...
