And oh dear, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry died.

Majel Barrett was cast as the First Officer in the initial Star Trek pilot "The Cage". After seeing it, the network executives asked producer Gene Roddenberry to either kick her out of the show or that alien with the pointed ears and the faintly green skin. Roddenberry kept Leonard Nimoy as Spock and married Barrett.
He later got her back on his show as nurse Christine Chapel. She is the only actress to appear in every spin-off of the Original Show, as Deanna Troi's (Marina Sirtis) mother Lwaxana. She also gave her voice to the Star Fleet computers and just completed her voiceover work for J.J. Abrams newest reimagination of the series, the eleventh movie.
She died yesterday from complications of leukemia and will be dearly missed by Trekkies all over the world. I am shocked by this because I only looked her up one week ago to find out whether she was going to provide her voice for Abrams' movie.

Here a scene from "TNG" about the subtle horrors of dining with a telepath and how to counter them.
